Mikumi National Park is one of Tanzania’s most accessible safari destinations, located near the main highway between Dar es Salaam and the southern highlands. The park forms part of the larger Selous ecosystem and offers open savannah landscapes reminiscent of the Serengeti.

The dry season provides optimal wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources and vegetation is reduced.
The wet season brings lush landscapes and excellent birding, though wildlife may be more dispersed across the park.
Mikumi National Park is home to elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, and hippos. Predators such as lions and leopards are commonly sighted, particularly around water sources.
Birdlife is diverse, with over 400 species recorded, including lilac-breasted rollers, hornbills, and birds of prey. Mikumi offers rewarding wildlife experiences throughout the year.
Mikumi National Park is characterized by wide open grasslands, scattered acacia trees, and the Mkata River floodplain. These habitats support a high density of wildlife throughout the year.
The park’s landscapes provide excellent visibility and classic safari scenery.
